Surrounded by groves of dark oak and evergreen. Rusted and silent, the piano sheds like a snake. The blue jay takes its strings to construct star-bright nests. White-tailed squirrels sunbathe atop its peeling black lid. Blue bunnies dig burrows for their young under its pitched shade. How the piano wishes it could be elsewhere! To fly in the blue abyss like the birds, to rest under the shade of the forest like the bunnies. How it longs to be home, to be caressed by delicate slim fingers, of its once-lively master, or even to be bashed on by the master’s inexperienced child. Alas, it can’t be helped, so the piano dreams away the silent days. |
